Mighty Sparrow, (real name Slinger Francisco), the Grenada-born Trinidadian calypso vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist is known as the King of Calypso. For over 60 years, Mighty Sparrow has created some of calypso’s biggest hits. Some were political songs – Bob Dylan was an early fan of those. But sometimes, Mighty Sparrow’s aims were romantic. Mighty Sparrow plays Friday night, July 5, with the Brooklyn-based CASYM Steel Orchestra (Caribbean American Sports and Cultural Youth Movement founded in 1983) at Summer Stage at Springfield Park in Queens.
