The Budos Band is a brass-heavy funk band that formed in Staten Island back in 2005. Their music draws heavily on American soul, West African funk and Ethiopian pop, but you’ll also hear touches of hard rock, jazz, metal, and the types of cinematic sounds you might’ve heard in a 1970s Blaxploitation film. The Budos Band has steadily made its own music even while it was playing with New York soul legends like Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. The Staten Island band’s members live all over these days, but on Aug. 4th, they’ll be back on Staten Island for a free show at Corporal Thompson Park.
